|
Dyslexia Support aims to offer students a complete and integrated service. At present students can undergo assessment, access work-shops or one-to-one, non-subject support with a Specialist Tutor. Needs Assessments are also carried out for dyslexic students in Higher Education to access the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA).
Subject to evidence, the range of support for dyslexic students at BMC includes:
- Small group or one-to-one work-shops in time management skills, learning-styles, reading skills for academic purposes, proof reading, note-taking, study-skills and presentation skills.
- Enabling Technology Training – in small work-shops or on a one-to-one basis, to familiarise students with text help software for use with course assignments and carrying out research - workshops also cover Mindmanager Software to assist with writing skills, planning assignments and projects.
- Loan of equipment including lap top computers, electronic dictionaries and reading pens.
- Coloured overlays in A4 and ruler sizes for use with reading activities.
- Study Skills Pack.
- Access to the Support4Learning Blackboard Site.
Further Support may include:
- Tutor awareness and/or classroom support recommendations.
- Possible examination recommendations based on evidence of assessment for example extra time, a reader or a scribe.
- Extended book loans in consultation with library staff.
