Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, in partnership with Belfast Met, EGSA, Unison and Widening Participation Unit of Beeches Management Centre, have won the prestigious Healthcare People Management Association’s Innovation Category Award for Excellence in Human Resource Management.
A partnership approach was adopted in developing the concept of a KSF Progression Qualification for support workers in health care and Belfast Met took the lead in building resources for learning to ensure that the programme is both employer-led and learner-centred. 26 BHSCT staff engaged in the 16 week programmes which enabled them to gain accreditation at level 2 for their work-based knowledge of the six core knowledge and skills framework [KSF] areas identified for all health care workers. In addition, the delivery of essential skills communication was embedded into the work-related content, thereby enabling learners to also achieve a literacy qualification based on an assessment of their level of competence.
Helen Minford, Programme Area Manager for Health, Social Care and Child Care said "I am delighted to be involved in this initiative. An immense amount of work has gone into the development of the partnership and subsequently this award winning programme. I am confident that this programme and collaborative approach is set to grow and develop in the future”
Belfast Met continues to work with BHSCT on a number of learning and development projects and it is anticipated that this specific KSF project will be rolled out to other staff over the next few years.
